Courtney's Blog July 18th, Day 13 of the Epic McFarland Journey!
Today was mostly a travel day. We planned to get into California and make good time. We went up some awesome mountain roads - you can check out the videos for the full picture. I drove. Thank God. Otherwise I would have spent the entire ride saying the following to Adam:
You're going too fast!
Get away from the edge!
Watch out for that car!!!
Since not too much happened today, I figured I could catch you upon Things We Have Learned on this trip thus far:
1. In approximately 95% of hotel bathrooms, there is a full length mirror available so you can watch yourself go to the bathroom. Note: I don't typically indulge in this practice.
2. When travelling with children, ALWAYS request the first floor. They stomp around like their trying to find hollow spots in the ground. If you end up on any floor but the first, you'll spend the rest of your evening and morning repeating this phrase "STOP STOMPING AROUND", and hearing the following reply "I'M JUST WALKING". We have also been the victims of this ....as we are usually on the first floor :-).
3. Things about Gideon:
a. Gideon had no idea cows could be colors other than "black and white". We saw some brown cows in PA. I said "look at the cows, Gideon!" I got a sharp attitude back. "Those are not cows, cows are bwack and white!"
b. Gideon has a fine palate for the taste of milk. Past Oklahoma, milk tastes bad.
c. Palm trees are called "Jungle Trees".
d. All freight trains carry trash. Just trash. Nothing else. Believe me, we've tried explaining. He assures us they only carry dumpsters.
e. His voice is "just loud". "Gideon, quiet down!" "No, Mommy, my voice is just lowd!"
f. If you tell him to stop yelling while he is "making up a sowng", you will get the following response from the backseat: "NO! I'm making Magic!"
4. Things about Abby:
a. She has watched the Lego movie approximately 4382904832 times. It's still hysterical.
b. The kid can hold her pee for 8 plus hours. We have to ask her to go.
c. Checks out for so long in her own little world, sometimes she is two states behind us!
d. Amazing patience with her brother. Super annoyed by her brother.
e. She loves taking pictures, and has a great eye for it!
f. She loves biscuits. Once we hit Oklahoma, there have been biscuits for breakfast at every hotel. She'd eat 8 if we let her.
g. She says grace for us before we eat sometimes. She got a compliment from someone at another table who told her she did a great job and that she was very brave. We agree of course!
Summary:
Lots of roadside pictures today. Lots of fun and lots of love.
Ended the Day at the Holiday Inn, Barstow, CA
