Courtney's Blog July 20th, Day 15 of the Epic McFarland Journey!

We certainly don't have one of those "Surprise We're Going To Disneyland" videos that will be famous. You can check out their reactions on the Disney video page, but basically Abby was like "yay" and Gideon said "good". Maybe its the two weeks in a car getting to them?

Surprise

There are two parks to see, we got tickets to both and decided to try to do both in 1 day. (thanks to Gugs for her guidance here) It was definitely do-able. We started the morning at California Adventure and we broke Gideon in on the Tower of Terror. While on the ride we were sure he was going to be emotionally scarred for life. He was quiet and appeared shell shocked, and due to his size, he spent the majority of the ride floating in the air. But as soon as it ended, he was in love! Again, see the disney video page for proof!!

Proof

There were NO lines this morning. It was great. The temperature was only 80 too! We went on a cars ride, a monsters, inc. ride, soarin' and a goofy rollercoaster. All great. Gideon dreamed of the ferris wheel at the Pier, so when we saw one here, we knew we had to go. This ferris wheel had "swinging" gondolas. We waited about 25 minutes for a horribly boring ride. Someone threw up in one of them and we watched it get cleaned up, and prayed to get a different gondola. We did. Once on board, the swinging turns out to be terrifying. See Disney Videos for proof. Holy bleep. Gugs, you would have died of motion sickness. All in all, the best ferris wheel ride of my life. Abby and I went on a roller coaster while Adam and Gideon went on a merry go round - twice. Apparently, Adam was forced to ride a gopher thing the second time around (Gideon's request). Sorry I don't have a picture to prove this....

We decide to head over to the other park. It is around 12. We make a bathroom stop, implement the first time-out of the day, and head over to the other park. We have a yummy lunch and head for more rides. The afternoon was much busier. Maybe it was the park, or the time, we're not sure. Anyways, we skipped the rides we were familiar with due to their wait times. Haunted Mansion was 30 minutes...But we did try some cute rides that were new to us! And we ended with the buzz lightyear ride that Gideon adores. He did great on the ride, and we all had a wonderful time.

On the way out, Gideon forces me to take a picture of him. He poses awkwardly. Does he have an instagram account I don't know about?

About two years ago at Disneyworld, my aunt bought me some men's flip flops due to my blistering foot situation. These flip flops quickly became my go-to sandal and I adore them. They have been everywhere on this trip. As I walked on the Pier yesterday, I felt a strange thing on my left foot. I pushed through it. I get halfway up the stairs and realize, the bottom layer of my flip flop is shedding off. Well, it has been two years of almost constant summer wear and tear..I am devastated, and buy a cheap, girly pair of flip flops on the Pier. Until I do, I walk like there is a 10 inch step in front of me with my left foot. I have to lift my foot high in the air so the bottom of the flip flop doesn't get caught on things, or beneath my foot. Gideon thinks I am playing with him (like a monster) and starts running in front of me. What a mess. Anyways, I scoured Disneyland to find these flip flops...and guess...what...I...found....RELIEF! A brand new pair to break in! I should have bought two.....

We head out of Disneyland around 5pm. We're exhausted, and the kids are tired of pretending they're not exhausted. Before we get out of the parking garage, Gideon is asleep. We grab dinner and head back to the hotel.

I'm glad the kids had such a great day, especially because there is lots more driving to be had!

Summary:

Disneyland is better than a Museum, Swinging Ferris Wheels are the way to go, 11 days away from knowing if Mommy is a CPA.
