Courtney's Blog July 25th, Day 20 of the Epic McFarland Journey!
We start the day out lazy and groggy. Me and the kids convince Dad to go to a local breakfast restaurant we saw last night - the Pig n' Pancake. Abby gets some whipped cream with a side of hot chocolate and eggs and a pancake. Gideon got chocolate chip pancakes and some of the chocolate made it in his mouth! Most decorated his Angelina Jolie lips. Adam got something with sausage and I got yummy eggs Benedict. There were tons of different crepes on the menu, so we thought fondly of Guggie! After a nice leisurely and filling breakfast, we headed out to our first only destination of the day - Astoria, OR. This is where some of the movie "The Goonies" was filmed. For those of you who know Adam, you know his trademarks: 1. Computer Geek, 2. Cool, Sarcastic T-Shirts and 3. He loves The Goonies (and has multiple goonies t-shirts). We could not miss Astoria.
After we saw Astoria, the rest of the day was really just making time and getting miles down. We decide to stay in Hillsboro, OR as Adam is familiar with the area from his business trips. We get in nice and early and unpack at the hotel. We then freshen up and head out to get some sushi that Mom and Dad have been hankering for! We bring Gideon some yogurt and fruit snacks to eat, classy, I know. Abby loves Udon noodles so we order her those. While we wait, she discovers she loves Edamame after I bribe her with money to eat it. (good parenting, I know....don't take tips from here..this is just a blog). After devouring 3 yummy rolls, we roll ourselves out of the restaurant and back to the hotel to pack it in for the night.
While driving to the hotel, Gideon started a new "thing". Adam told Gideon to stop doing something and Gideon responded "Have a nice day, Daddy", but in a sarcastic and irritated tone. This was one of those parenting moments where you think the kid is hysterical, but you can't laugh. I didn't do so great, and Gideon noticed me chuckling. He must have said "have a nice day" about 50 times after that....I take full responsbility.
As we relax in bed while the kids sleep, I remember all the beautiful sites of the day. Not as many scenic vistas today, but where we lacked in number, we made up for in beauty.
Summary:
Adam's internal head map is alive and well (he never forgets a street), Thank Goodness for Sushi, Can't wait to have a separate room from the kids again.
Ended the Day at the Springhill Suites, Hillsboro, OR
