Pie and Prayers

And here we are: the first day of The McFarland 2021 Road Trip! The day began with a whole ton of "Did we pack ___?" on the part of Mom, but then we were on our way!
Our first two hours had us coasting without an issue through Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The four hour Maine stretch, however, began the fun. About two hours in, Mom issued her first "Look at how pretty that grass is." Luckily, she avoided the scenic route when given a chance. All smooth sailing.
The closer to our inn we got, the more assured we were that this inn could be the site of our murders. As the playful fantasies about how exactly our netflix murder documentary would sound, we came upon a church in the middle of nowhere. It's really a shame that there aren't more people who could happen upon this because it's sign is incredibly interesting.
Jesus, Please
At surface level, it's not very funny. It's important to remember for context that we had been in the car, eating sugar in the middle of nowhere for six hours. So we had a lot of fun playing with the tone of the message. For instance it could be "Jesus, Please" in the context of . . . asking for Jesus, I guess? However as a certain bestie of mine pointed out, what if the inflection were "Jesus, Please" in a flirtatious manner? Anyway, that entertained our exhausted minds for at least fifteen minutes.
We got to Bear Claw Inn in the lovely and not at all old-people-smelly town of Mars Hill, Maine. It seems entirely antagonistic that 10 miles across the border to Canada there's a nice, warm and snotty rich people Mariott, but Canada won't let us inn. Get it? Anyways, the motel is quaint, quiet and located by the main stretch of Mars Hill. Our first floor room has a perfect view of the street, meaning any creepy Maine-living person around here can easily break into our hotel room. Cool, right?
We walked half a block down the street to eat at the wonderful restaurant suggested to us by Guggie, The Timber Wolf BBQ. The food was excellent and the staff were more than friendly. Although it, too, smelt like old people. I was able to overcome that observation when I was offered a slice of peanut butter and chocolate pie. Now you might be thinking "Abby, it's just pie." You don't understand. It was more than pie. It was my delicious, creamy, buttery soulmate. I have forever been fulfilled by this piece of stellar pie.
And now, with a whole lot of "Dad, what if ___?" or "Dad, how do I ___?" you know all about the first and most entertaining day of The McFarland Family Road Trip 2021.
