Yosemight Need a Second Day
I woke up with all the sheets kicked off my bed and a whole lot of sweat. Fabulous. Thanks, air conditioning. Mom told me that even though the sunrise was supposed to be at 5:45 that at the time, 5:10, the show was beginning. A little grumpy, I got ready and went outside. It was pretty, but mostly covered by the smoke from the current wildfires in California. We did get a great view of a few jays fighting over who gets to eat a group of moths, though. They definitely added some excitement to the morning.
We went inside after to pack up for the day, and once I'd finished packing myself I looked out the window again and spotted the real sunrise. It was absolutely stunning, though I don't think any of us. got pictures of that. We counted Gideon's stuffties a few times, and then we were on our way!
Because we left so early, we ate the snacks that we already had in the car for breakfast. Then, we got to the real attraction for the day: Yosemite National Park. Once again, at the ticketed park no one was there to check our ticket. They did, however, have a self-serve road pass thing that you had to fill out which included a section for reservation number. Someone could just make one up, but fine, better than Glacier. The real kicker: there was another way. A checkbox at the bottom that said "I am just passing through the most convenient route, I won't be taking stops and I'll be out of the park in three hours". So of course, everyone is going to use that. Fine, whatever.
The park itself is a beautiful mix of landscapes between meadows, prairies, valleys, rivers, mountains and forests. It was absolutely stunning. I even got some pictures of these beautiful ravens that followed us around, and Mom cried at one point. At one of the rest stops, we met a family and took a picture for them. Then, we talked to them for a bit, and one of them suggested we go see Glacier Point in Yosemite. It was only a short detour from our path, so we decided to go do it. There were actually two look outs on the road, and ironically enough the less popular one was far more beautiful. Either way, really glad we went to see that view. Plus, in the gift shop, me and Gideon got a backpack each to begin collecting our respective souvenirs. It was absolutely amazing. We could really have used another day.
On the way out of the park, we were all hungry for lunch. Mom looked up a few places nearby, but claimed the highest rated of them was a Carl's Jr. We all agreed to try it, and it wasn't half bad. The hotel wasn't far after that. It was actually a nicer hotel, a Mariott to be exact. We got settled in happily and me and Gideon were sent to locate and investigate the pool considering it was only mid afternoon. The pool was empty and easily located. We decided to go for a swim, but by the time we got to the pool it was packed. Little children everywhere. It was alright by us in the beginning, until a few of the little buggers got all of them to continuously jump into the no diving pool. Fabulous. It got old and we went back to our room.
For dinner, we found a Texas Roadhouse! The bread was everything I remember.
And, once we got back to the hotel, I did something that will amaze you. I sorted through and compared my pictures for posting. They should be there now, hope you enjoy! Well, only through the 12th but better than nothing, alright? Give me a break this is a vacation.
