As we drive up Interstate 75 a little while after a fill up the bloody check engine light comes back on. Collectively we moan that maybe there is something more wrong with the van than we had expected and individually, and almost certainly with Court as well, worry about where the heck we are going to get this taken care of. Shortly after having a brief conversation about it hopefully being the gas cap thing again Court sees in the sideview mirror the gas door flopping around in the wind. I of course get asked how that could happen. I could not figure out what was going on here as I could have sworn that I closed it and heard it latch before walking away from it while getting the gas. We leave it alone for now and just hope that whatever caused the door to be open caused the light. As a nice side effect of the check engine light being on, the computer that controls the cruise control is disabled so now there is no longer the ease of Alice control the gas for you.
As we get close to St Ignace, MI the whole car decides we need to go to the bathroom but don't want to stop until we get to the hotel. As a result, when we get to the hotel there's a rotation of people unpacking and others going potty. After getting everything unpacked and letting Court find a parking spot, I go in to start the check in process. Court comes in during the process to inform me that no only was the gas door open but the cap was still in the little holder that it goes in while you fuel up. I am told that I am not allowed to get gas anymore. My evil plan is working! Eventually we get checked in, in the room with a nice view of Lake Huron and decide to head back to the cute little downtown area for dinner. We pick Mackinac Grille since it has an outdoor area and the weather is perfect for it. The view from the deck is of the lighthouse and boardwalk and we head out to walk down and get some pictures when we are done. It's a really nice, calm evening after spending so much time in the van over the last couple of days.
