With all of the days being so hot and long lately, we decided that it might be time for a more relaxing and smaller drive day. It didn't help that the normal distance that we've been travelling in day landed us around Vail, CO which was incredibly expensive so we had the choice to push on a bit or call it short. Since we knew that we had a short day, we again looked for a breakfast place to enjoy and found Dream Cafe. We walked there since it was really close and could see from our walk that it was a pretty busy place but managed to get seated quickly. Our waiter immediately identified Gideon's Dipper hat from Gavity Falls and made some comments about it. He then proceded to tell us about his motorcycle armor that he made to look like Batman. He was an interesting person to say the least and entertaining to speak with. I got some huevos rancheros this time which was excellent. Court enjoyed another good eggs benedict which is a good start to a relaxing day. At this point though Abigail is just itching to have something simple for breakfast since breakfast really isn't her deal and gets the pancakes which she ends up enjoying greatly. Gideon just gets some eggs.

We start our drive out of the city and into some very pretty groves of what the signs say are peaches. It's a big constrast of the deep green tree leaves against the bright red cliffs surrounding the valley. There are a few little side roads that we take as we go to get onto some of the original alignments. So far in Colorado though, they have been doing a good job of keeping these original alignments paved and passable which has been nice. We get to see some of the small towns and locales that people are missing on the highway. Since this is a short day for some recovery we pull into Glenwood Springs in very short time and attempt to check in, just in case. This doesn't work out but we had already had a back up plan for this eventuality. Space Jam. So we head out to a local theater to watch the movie.

When we get to the location according to the Google Maps we can't really see the theater. After driving around the building we see that it is in the back of the complex so we park and head in. There is no one at the ticket window and there is a sign up saying to buy your tickets from the concession stand. Obviously they are running on a shortened staff. We head in, get our tickets that we had ordered online and grab some snacks for all of us. We head into the actual theater and I expected the old style chairs but these are actually quite nice. Large chairs, moving arm rests so that Court and I could snuggle, lots of room. The movie is actually pretty good while it plays. You read that right, near the end of the movie during part of the cliff hanger, the image on the screen goes black. You can still hear everything but the screen has nothing. Court gets up after a minute or two and lets the guy out in the lobby area know what's happening to which he replies "The projectionist probably fell asleep and let it go into screen saver mode". He calls up and suddenly the picture comes back and he rewinds it for a small part but not far enough. Court goes back out and asks it to be rewound a bit more and we get to watch the ending as it was intended.

We leave the movie and pack back into the van to head to the hotel again to attempt to check in this time. Over the mountain ridge we can see some lightning and there's some light rain happening, more on that later. We make it back to the hotel where it's not raining at all and begin the process of checking in. There's a long story here but the short of it is that we asked for two adjoining rooms when booking and we got two adjacent rooms. Not helpful. We go back and cancel one of the rooms since apparently we needed to explain what the difference was between adjacent and adjoining. After this whole mess we chill for a bit while we kind of slowly toss around ideas for dinner later and Court spends some time on the phone trying to make other reservations. While this happened, we got a warning on our phone that the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning until 8PM that evening. Apparently there has been a burn here recently just east of the city we are in and they are worried that any decent amount of rain may cause landslides so they have also shut down the highway.

So, we wait out 8PM and head out to dinner at Glenwood Canyon Brewpub. It's a pretty hoping place and the food is really good which is nice after having to wait so long for it. We head back to the hotel for the night.
