Rainy With a Chance of Pride

If for some reason you're actually reading these religiously, you'll remember we left off with the adventures of the McFarland family in Burlington, Vermont. As we spent a weekend in the area last summer, we had already picked out our favorite restaurants for dinner and breakfast. It being a Sunday morning, the family decided we should get there for the opening of the restaurant The Friendly Toast so that we could be in and out. I'm not complaining, and you'll see why in a minute, but the place opened at eight. Our hotel was a half an hour away, and I have to take my medication two hours before I eat for it's best effects. This means I got woken up at six during the summer to take my pill and then actually had to get up to get to breakfast on time. No beauty sleep here, not that my perfection needs it ;)
Anyway it was an early start. We got to the restaurant a half an hour early, which gave me time to break into the third Percy Jackson book, so I'm not upset. Plus, when we were seated, I got the most amazing waffle. Ever. It was called "Waffle Lotta Pride" and it consisted of a waffle with Fruity Pebbles inside of it, Fruity Pebble frosting stuffing, whipped cream, blue luster dust and a sour rainbow candy. It was delicious. It wasn't just this one restaurant that was friendly either, pride flags were hung all over the place! I forgot how amazing that place was.

Today otherwise was primarily driving. The morning was mostly making our way through Vermont, but we got a stunning view of Lake Champlain. It was incredibly windy when we stepped out of the van for pictures, but it was all worth it. The views were amazing. Champlain is a freshwater lake, but for some reason it smelt distinctly like the ocean. So much so that before even knowing the body of water I asked Dad "Is this the Ocean?" To be fair my understanding of where we were was that we were nowhere near the ocean, so I was confused. Turns out, we weren't. Dang freshwater lake threw me off. Anyway, I lingered around a bit longer than most of the family, so hopefully the pictures are worth enduring the "I can't tell if Abby likes photography" comments.
The neighborhoods nearby the lake were incredibly small-town beautiful. After that breathtaking stretch, the view for the rest of the day was essentially crops and fields. Not a super interesting day, but that's ok because I was able to watch My Hero Academia on the drive.
The monotone of the day continued until mid to late afternoon when out of nowhere, the sky fell open. I kid you not, one minute it was sunny and clear, the next we were driving through a downpour. Wow, you know your day was really boring when rain is the most interesting part of it, huh?
We retired for the night earlier than yesterday which was relaxing. We're staying in a Holiday Inn in Ashtabula, Ohio. We got to watch the new episodes of The Owl House and Miraculous, which brightened up my day.
