As expected, this morning was as boring and unproblematic as a normal day in Hopkinton would be. We got one of my favorite breakfasts, Burger King french toast sticks. Next to it was a McDonalds, where we witnessed the commencing of the Ashtabula Senior's Club, aka a group of five seniors in lawn chairs in McDonalds' handicapped spot. A little entertaining.
En route, Dad told me that we would be driving a massive bridge on our way to the upper peninsula of Michigan. That was the only thing that motivated me today. I wanted to get to that bridge, damn it.
To pass the time, me and Mom decided to collect a few quotes from the day that could be quite funny out of context."Put your nipple away", "Don't lick me while I'm asleep" and "So much death on my windshield" were our personal favorites. Are we insane? I'm not sure, don't ask.
At lunch time, Dad mentioned a number of Steak n' Shakes nearby. If you don't know what those are, you've never lived. They sell the most amazing patty melts you will ever have. We were so excited we went as far as to pick a location and order online in advance. Around our designated pick-up time, we pulled into the parking lot of the Steak n' Shake. Surprise! The restaurant that we'd already paid to have lunch at was closed. Not only did I not get my Frisco Melt, which was very disappointing, but we lost thirty bucks on it.
The rest of the day was one long bout of waiting for the bridge. It was slow and painful, but all worth it. So. Worth. It. It was long and peaceful. The structure itself looked as delicate as lace. Lake Huron was this unbelievable deep blue to turquoise ombre. It was breathtaking. Our hotel has a perfect view of the lake.
We decided to have dinner at a small local place with another beautiful view, which turned out to be a pretty great idea. The mac-and-cheese there is my third soulmate of the road trip . . . it was so good.

Right in the restaurant's backyard was a cute little boardwalk with a lighthouse on the end, where I finally got to take some pictures of Lake Huron. Right near the restaurant and boardwalk was a super cool double-decker ice cream bus! Guess what I got? You won't believe it. Mint chocolate chip ice cream. I know, so original. Listen, sometimes (or in my case all the time) you gotta go with a classic.
After getting laundry over with, we went to the pool. Lemme just say--I forgot how much I love swimming. It was nice to be able to float in solitude and hear my own breathing again. Plus, Mom taught me how to swim backwards . . . I thought I was so cool at the time. I decided to get adventurous and melt the skin away from my mortal coil, aka go in the hot tub. The most enjoyable part about the hot tub was that the jets kept blowing a giant bubble in the body of Mom's swimsuit. Whenever she wrung it out, it sounded like one large, squishy fart.
At this point I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to wrap this up eloquently now, so I'll just say today was more relaxing than most.
