Fatal Feces

You'd think if we made it this far on the trip, our near-death experience would at least be cool. Like almost running into some majestic animal or something. Just you wait . . .
This morning we found a cute lil donut shop in Duluth. A great start to a great day!
We planned to find an area with wifi around ten eastern time to try and purchase some tickets into Glacier National Park. In my opinion, it's kinda stupid that the government is even limiting how many people can see nature . . . like I get it with COVID but this is ridiculous. Only 360 tickets a day and it's virtually impossible to get one. With time zone changes, however, time crept up on us and we were frantically pulling out devices at 9:55 eastern time. Just as we pull over and try pulling out our laptops in addition to our phones, Gideon exclaims "Add to cart! Proceeding to checkout!" to which we all shriek and reach for the nearest credit card. In the end, Gideon secured the ticket! NIce job, buddy. There was a victory celebration with lots of high fiving, laughing and general excitement. I think this was probably weighing us down a lot, so it was a nice pick-me-up.
Our real attraction for the day was the headwaters of the Mississippi. The park was a short but beautiful walk to a busy beach area with a bunch of little bridges and walks that allowed you to cross the Mississippi river. Mom took some real artsy photos of me and Gideon on a bench, which was really cool as well. Check out her photos and see them! The most time consuming part of the whole endeavor was the gift shop. Personally, I got a sweatshirt, postcards and some pins. Everyone else got merchandise too and let's just say it wasn't cheap.
On the way out of the park that housed the Mississippi River, we were behind a pick-up hauling two porta-potties on a trailer. We were stopped right behind it at a four way intersection, when a semi truck came from the right. It tried to turn into the road we were on, but didn't turn hard enough and needed more space. The pick-up started backing up right into us, but there was a car coming up behind us so we couldn't reverse. Eventually, after a little screaming and probably only a six inch gap between us and the porta-potties, Mom honked and the truck stopped. Phew, that was a close one. The driver got out to check on us and everyone passed on their merry way, even though Mom was shaking for a little while.
Even though we were hungry, we decided to stop at a Paul Bunyan statue. Yes, another one. I know. How can there be more? Trust me, there are. I don't think we've gone a day without seeing good ol' Paul Bunyan, actually. This one was slightly more bearable because it was situated in a beautiful lake-side area.   To celebrate not dying, we went to a hotdog place called Lucky Hotdogs. This place had the craziest hotdogs . . . I personally kept it simple with a chili cheese. The more important thing, though, was my side. I got a side of mac-and-cheese and once again I was not disappointed. Yes, I know two out of four of my soulmates are mac-and-cheese. It's good, shut up. Anyway it was amazing and creamy . . .mmmm.

After lunch the ride was one long stretch towards a hotel. I took a nap, so I don't remember a lot of what happened.
We arrive at a Country Inn in late afternoon. If you kept track of us last road trip, you'll know that we haven't had such great luck with Country Inns in the past, so naturally I was scared. The place actually looked really nice even though the person that checked us in wasn't too personable. Plus, we got a suite with three beds! Now we can all sleep in comfort! We had a little relax time before dinner, so I got to call my best friend and talk for a bit. It was really refreshing to see her angelic beauty. (I know you're seeing this. Hi!)
Dad had researched this area a while ago and suggested we try a place called Kegs where they brewed their own root beer and had good sloppy joes. The place was really hopping and Mom was panicked when it came to parking, but we figured it out. Turns out they were out of rootbeer, but the sloppy joes were pretty good! We also saw some weird man dragging cardboard down the street. Gideon had a hankering for Dairy Queen, so we got him some ice cream for dessert and stopped by CVS for a few items before heading back to the hotel.
After a quick break when Mom taught me how to upload pictures, we went swimming! The pool was filled with children and most likely also filled with pee, which was interesting. Me and Gideon did some rough housing, Mom was consistently cautious not to get water near her face and Gideon tried a hot-tub. He confirmed that I'm not the only one who finds hot-tubs extremely warm and feels as if they might burn off their body parts inside one.
We got back from the pool pretty late, so after that Mom and Dad decided to go to sleep and so did I. Because I was the only one sharing a room with Gideon, I was the one who had to inform him that no, he could not watch youtube videos. Sound familiar?
