Basin' Off My Memory . . .
As usual, we started this morning at a gas station. This one was quite large and attached to a Carl's Jr that Mom and Gideon wanted for breakfast, so me and Mom went inside to pick up some snacks and breakfast. Dad and Gideon stayed behind to pump gas and fill the tire. Inside, me and Mom went a little crazy with candies again, but we usually use them as mid-day power up, so . . . no, we're not video game characters. Yes, we like chocolate. Anyway, we dropped off our haul at the car and then went to go inside Carl's Jr, but a sign on their door said that they were closed for another half an hour or so. Oh, well. We went to the McDonald's across the street instead.
We drove for a little while longer before we came upon the first of two visitor's centers for our park today: Great Basin. We stopped and sent Gideon to see if it was open. It was not, but me and Gideon got out anyway to throw away our trash. Why are all the visitor's centers closed on this trip?
The park itself was a short drive up a cute little mountain. It wasn't as stunning as the other parks, but it's quiet really made up for it. We barely saw people on our drive.
On the way out, we stopped at the second visitor center, which was open even though it was a little bit of a zoo. Inside was a cute museum with a little imitation cave that a bunch of little kids were having a bunch of fun in. It didn't have much of a gift shop, however, and there was another sign that advertised a gift shop just next door, so we popped in there. That also wasn't much of a gift shop, and there wasn't anything anyone else was interested in there. I got two stickers though! One just says Great Basin National Park and the other says Nature and Naps. Feels fitting. We went back to the other gift shop afterwards for Gideon's stuffie and Mom's coaster.
After leaving the park it was a little drive to the next populated area, and the only thing there we could pick up there was also McDonalds . . . oh, well. The fries are good anyway. While we were waiting we saw an employee bring out some food. Mom said she thinks she's a model, to which I responded, "a McModel". I thought it was funny, you decide for yourself.
We scarfed that down because just fifteen minutes away from the McDonald's was an abandoned fort. It was pretty cool to see, but nothing to fancy anymore. It did hold up for a while though considering it was made from mud.
Most of the afternoon there was a lot of driving. Stopped at a really pretty road to try and take a middle of the road picture, but cars kept coming and then a policeman came along so we decided to get back in the car. He didn't want anything with us though, he just stopped to make sure we were ok. A little while later we found another abandoned stretch of road and finally took the picture. Later on the drive, I saw Molly's nipple. Do you want an explanation? Too bad.
We arrived at our Marriott in a pretty decent sized city called Provo. The hotel itself smells musty again and is generally a little worse than your average Marriott. Essentially as soon as we got there, we ordered Hungry Howie's for Mom, because she tried it once and loved it. When we all took a bite, it definitely held up to her memories. Really delicious.
Oh, you're still wondering about Molly's Nipple aren't you? Don't worry, some creepy explorer dude named a mountain in the area Molly's Nipple. There was no actual nippple sighting.
Anyway, we were all pretty tired after today and went to bed pretty early after that.
