Can't Escape Education
This morning, I was woken up by the following terrifying concept: I have been signed up for driver's education classes that start on August 9th. Even worse, they span over a week from 10am to 4pm. And: there's only a half an hour break for lunch. Ugh.
As we started getting going, it became increasingly obvious that Dad was really stressed out. We had an escape room in Denver booked for 4:15 based on my request, but we had a little travelling to do to get there on time. Clearly, this wasn't sitting well with Dad. I couldn't help but feeling a little bit bad that I'd asked to do it, but hey, how could I ever know that this would stress out Dad.
We went to a local donut place for breakfast, but as you've all learned by reading my blogs, I am so sick and tired of donuts. Luckily, I was able to get a bagel! It was really yummy, I'm happy with my choice.
The main roads around the span we were travelling today were wiped out a little by the flooding situation last night. That meant we couldn't use them, so we let google take us down the backroads. We ended up on this really narrow and terrifying dirt road that spanned some cliffs. Google told us to take a turn off that road and we were relieved for a second until we noticed that route was actually worse than the first. We kept going forward. There were a whole ton of cars ahead of us, and a whole bunch of cars coming back the other way, so we just kept following them. They must be going somewhere, right? As it turns out, they were going towards a part of this road that google didn't know existed. When we drove it, google got very confused, but once we got to the other side of the road where google recognized it again, we had cut an hour off our drive. Absolutely terrifying. Mom cried once. But hey, all worth it.
Soon after that we were travelling another mountain road, but at least this one was paved. When we got to the top, there was a sign detailing the continental divide. Back on our side of the divide, suckers! It was really pretty up there, too.
We pulled up to the hotel around two and asked to check in, but 'our room wasn't ready yet'. Take note, that'll come back later. We didn't have much else to do, so we brought a bunch of our stuff in and sat in the lobby, which was massive. I got a lot of blog writing done then. Mom said it looked kinda sketchy on the outside and I kinda agreed, but on the inside the place was real nice.
Mom asked for a room again at exactly three, the check in time. She specifically asked for adjoining rooms, which the hotel claimed were not assigned until check in time. When she approached, though, the front desk said that they had already sold out the adjoining rooms twenty minutes ago. Additionally, apparently the kind of room we booked was not adjoining compatible. Things to tell us, guys, come on. Ridiculous. Anyway, Mom went into her rage mode again which was momentarily terrifying. Eventually, we got to our room.
We dropped our stuff, went pee and left straight away to get to our escape room on time. We had booked parking in this garage in Denver with specific instructions on how to find it. It was super easy to see it. Once we got in, though, the app said we were supposed to scan a qr code. We tried to scan it, but it wouldn't work. A man sweeping in the corner came over and informed us that it does not, in fact, work. He asked us to take a ticket and talk to him on the way out. Easy peasy, we park and get into the escape room building. There were a few flights of stairs to get to it which was a little bit of a downer, but once we were up it was easy. Another person informed us of the rules and got us all set up in the room. Guys: it was so. cool. We escaped only four minutes away from record time, too. All in all a really great experience, plus there was a doggie stuffed animal with a pirate eye patch in the room.
After that, we went to a diner Dad suggested on the same block. It was a cute looking place, and the appetizers were pretty good. Mom didn't like her drink, and our patty melts weren't all that good. The mac-n-cheese was gold, though. A very mediocre experience.
Back in the car, we told the dude about the app we paid to park in the garage, and he took down our reservation number and let us out for free. Sweet. Thanks, dude.
I wrote a little and showered before going to sleep, knowing it wouldn't last for long.
