Today was a pretty cut and dry driving day. There were signs and intructions to leave our wristband keys in the room and then just go — no check-out needed. Sounds great to us!
There wasn't a lot of options in terms of breakfast, so we stopped at a gas station for breakfast-like foods. I tried a cookie dough Quest bar, and it actually wasn't all that bad! After we finished breakfast we became aware of our first issue for the day: we had an ant infestation. They were everywhere and we were all smashing them constantly. Rhythm band installment number three. And of course, while all this is going on, Mom was both trying to work and asking us what our room numbers were at the Margaritaville. Apparently, you can leave your keys and just go, but only if you text them what your room numbers were when you leave. Which sounds exactly like what? That's right! Check-out!
We endured this infestation through lunchtime, when we discovered our next issue which gave us some pause. Gideon had a sunscreen lotion in his backpack, and it exploded over everything. Glasses cases, charging cords and water bottles were all worse for the wear. All of this was inconvenient but only for him, so we were apologetic but ok with it. He was cleaning things with napkins and everything was fine. Until there was sunscreen in the vents on the back of the home computer. Really, Gideon?
We took a stop at a gas station and got a ton of clorox wipes, some rubbing alcohol and some Q-tips. We also took out our bug spray. We then essentially held a DIY fumigation. We opened all the doors where ants were coming from, doused their hinges and openings in DEET, then cloroxed every other surface they could dream to walk on. They were still everywhere, but hopefully we are making it harder for them to leave the doors and they will just die in there. We also cleaned out a large number of ant eggs, so that helped as well, I'd hope. Of course, none of this stopped the rhythm band from continuing the rest of the car ride.
While back on the road, Gideon started cleaning out the computer fans. I, however, had a different plan. Hot Cheetos. If anyone knows about my addiction, they know this choice was both my joy and my demise. If you aren't clear, here's the video evidence.
We stopped at a CVS on the way to the hotel for ant traps, ant spray and Dad's distilled water. At the hotel, we step up the traps, fumigated one last time and headed inside. We all headed over to Mom and Dad's room to decide what was for dinner, and we landed on Cracker Barrel. It was a delicious and reliable meal. Me and Gideon got goodies in the gift shop and we all headed back to the hotel.
Oh, and there's one more complication to all of this: yesterday was leg day. So every movement that occured today was followed with an ow ow ow
or some form of grunting… not attractive. But we went back to the gym anyway. As expected, it actually helped a little in the moment.
You'd think it would be too late in the day for more issues to arise, but there is where you'd be wrong. Gideon was taking apart and cleaning the computer, and I was down a pair of underwear. Uh oh. I can't just put dirties on post-shower! I'm supposed to be clean. I called Mom and texted the family group chat for the car keys. No response. Yikies. I sat for 30 minutes hoping for a response (isn't that what parents are for?) before we made the executive decision I should just go knock and ask. That I did and we made our trip down to the car without incident.
Predictably, post-shower me and Gideon watched some Gossip Girl before calling it a night. He asked for it almost immediately! I think he missed it since we left the Virgin Islands!
Nice Deed of the Day: I ducked two cars!
