Adam's Blog July 10th, Day 5!
The big thing planned today was 4 Women on the Route which apparently is now called Cars on the Route. This is the home of the car that inspired Tow Mater and now has a pretty close replica as well. We also met our first " Crazy Person" on the road, Melba the Mouth who is one of the owners. She is a wonderful person and shares a lot of the history with us of the town and this section of the route and such. She is also apparently interviewed in the Cars 2 DVD extras. This is a really cool and quaint little town.
From here we see the tri-state marker delineating the boundary between Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. Then we ate moving again. The plan is to make it to Oklahoma City for our first rest day of no travel and see a family friend of Courtney. This seems like it should be easy right? Up until now, the route has been decently signed but shortly after entering Oklahoma, the signage gets spotty at best. We spend a lot of time referencing books and website images and maps. We get to see some really cool little towns, most of which are primarily abandoned, old bridges and rolling farm land. During this stretch Courtney pulls over to take a picture when a police office pulls up behind us. Great, we are getting a ticket. The officer comes up to the window and just asks to make sure we not broken down and check on us in general and moves along after we tell him we are just admiring the scenery.
We also see the Round Barn and the Catoosa Whale which are both famous sites, very cool. We drive by POPS, more on that tomorrow, and head in to the hotel.
