Adam's Blog July 20th, Day 15!
Well, after a lot of debate we decided to treat the kids to a visit to Disneyland today (also Court and my first time here). The kids don't know this at first though because we have told them that we are going to a transportation museum. We get up really early because of all of the traffic woes that we have had and realize that the secret to getting around must be to leave super early in the morning. We get to Luvin Donuts in record time. This is a shop we tried last time in LA after reading some reviews and boy was it tasty. So we decided to go again. Abigail even agreed that they were better than Dunkin, sorry guys. The kids munch on their donuts, hating the idea of a transportation museum. When we arrive we have to draw their attention to the signs, finally some excitement.
We go to California Adventure first, thinking this is the park with the most stuff that we don't have when we go to Disney World. My original plan was to head off to Radiator Springs Racers but as we enter we see that the ride is currently broken. So we head to Carsland anyway since it was some of the inspiration for the trip this fast. It is really a well done area. Eventually we make our way over to the Tower of Terror expecting that one of us is sitting out for Gideon. Not so! He is tall enough and said he wanted to go. So we get on and cuddle him during the intro movie. As we sit down I begin to worry how he'll take it. As the rise starts going Gideon gets a serious look on his face. I am worried that we may have scarred him for life. We get outside and Gideon stays talking about how he lived it picking him up and down real fast. Phew, crisis averted.
The next eventful ride was the ferris wheel. Now this is no normal wheel. There are cars on it that rock. This is probably the most fun I have ever had on ferris wheel. The whole time Court and Abigail ate screaming, Gideon is white knuckling the seat while laughing hysterically and I am bracing myself against the side of the car. We will eventually get video of this up here for all to see because it is hilarious.
After some other rides, we switched over to Disneyland. The wholemorning long, wait times have been reasonable and the hostess for our lunch even remarked how it wasn't busy today. That all changed afterwards and it became more like the Disney we know. We attempted to visit Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion to see if they were any different here, 40 minute waits... No thanks. They still have Mr Toad's Wild Ride here! I used to love this ride in Disney World. After reriding it, I am not sure why it was my favorite other than it had a steering wheel that I could use. Sorry Mom and Dad for making you ride on that one so much. The line for the Matterhorn practically wrapped around the whole exterior of the ride. We still made the best of it and got in a couple of rides here before heading out for the day.
