Adam's Blog August 4th, Day 30

A long drive planned today to make it in to Niagara Falls, ON for the evening. We booked a hotel that was supposedly at the falls which was exciting as well so off we went. Driving through Michigan was nice and we managed to find a Checkers for lunch on the way again!

Away we went through Michigan and attempted to head to Canada. As we get close there are all sorts of signs "To Canada Only", "Exit to Return to USA", etc. Makes me wonder how many people got "stuck" going into Canada in the past, seems silly. Especially considering the traffic jam that was here for the combination of the toll for the bridge and customs. I think it took about 2 hours to get through it all here as well. By the time it all went through we all had to use a restroom desperately so we stopped at the visitor center.

After the restroom we started looking through the maps and such and decided to get a map of Niagara Falls so that we won't get stuck considering our cell phones aren't of use here. We pay for the map and we get Canadian money back. Abigail looked at it and thought that it was Austrailian money, which is actually pretty observant since that was the only money like that that she had seen before. After some chuckles we get headed back to the van to drive through to the city.

As we get off of the highway there is a ton of stuff to see, more than I remember the last time that I was here as well. We pull down the street for the hotel and we actaully see Horseshoe Falls in the background behind some of the concrete jungle between us! Pretty cool. We park and start checking in and get informed that there's a fireworks show tonight as well over the falls. So we get everyone in the room, order some pizza in to the room so that we have more time to shower and get ready for the fireworks. About and hour before hand we head out hoping to catch one of the other sites on the way to the fireworks.

Here is where the fun starts. We head out the back door since that's the general direction of the Ferris wheel thing that we wanted to head over to. Unfortunately, there's not getting there from here. We wander around for a while and finally start heading in the right direction just to find out that we likely need to start heading towards the falls if we were going to make the show. So we head down the path to the falls. It is dark, steep and uneven, wonderful. Sorry to pull us all out here guys, my bad, but we did make it down to the falls in time. As we sit in our spot waiting, Abigail starts complaining about the wait. Classic kid though, as soon as they start she is impressed. Afterwards she says that she is glad that she waited and that we came. We head back up to the hotel and bunk down for the night.
